WHY IT MATTERS
Long Stays Can Be Challenging
For homeless dogs, HARP’s shelters are a refuge, a place of safety, expert care, and unyielding compassion. But they aren’t home.
While they wait for their forever families, some dogs spend weeks or even months in the shelter. Long stays can be challenging for a dog’s physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. Stress can show up as barking, pacing, or shutting down, and that can make a wonderful dog harder for adopters to connect with.
That’s why enrichment, behavioral support, training, and opportunities to simply be a dog are so important. This fund helps make that possible.
Established by HARP Board Member Christi Robinette in honor of her beloved Winston, a HARP alum, the fund supports behavioral care and enrichment for shelter dogs, with a special focus on dogs experiencing longer stays.
From a field trip or playgroup to personalized training and support after adoption, the Winston Fund helps dogs feel their best, show their best, and ultimately find the right path home. Every gift to the fund is restricted to this work.

PUP WITH A PURPOSE
Meet Winston
Winston had been through a lot before finding his way to HARP. Rescued from a situation where five dogs had endured a month of sub-zero weather, he arrived malnourished and afraid. Once he was home, some of his fears emerged in ways that could be difficult to understand, but with the right guidance, Christi learned that what looked like challenging behavior was really Winston’s way of protecting himself when he felt nervous.
His journey showed her just how much patience, understanding and behavioral support can help a dog feel safe, build confidence and become the loving companion they were meant to be.

Every animal deserves the chance to reach its full potential.
“Every animal deserves the chance to become the best version of itself. The animals who need a little more time and support are often the ones who can be overlooked,” said Robinette. “The Winston Fund was created because I believe every dog deserves that opportunity— to heal, grow and show people who they really are. I’ve seen firsthand the incredible work HARP’s Behavior, Training & Enrichment team does, and I’m proud to make this additional investment in their ability to help even more dogs thrive.”
