Court Appointed Community Service Program

Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh (HARP) strives to maintain a safe working environment for our animals, staff and volunteers.

The HARP Court Appointed Community Service Program provides opportunities for people 18 years of age and older to complete Court Appointed community service (a stipulation set forth by a judge). Community service opportunities are available 7 days a week at our centers. These individuals assist employees with duties at our centers such as cleaning cages, washing dishes, shredding newspaper, laundry, maintenance and other duties as assigned. Community Service workers do not directly work with animals.

Information regarding the individual’s offense must be submitted to the Volunteer Coordinator, along with the request for community service assignment. Contact information for the individual’s probation officer or other court designee must be provided prior to beginning the assignment.

Acceptance of court mandated community service applicants is at the discretion of Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh. Only misdemeanor offenses will be accepted, and in cases involving illegal drugs, animal cruelty, domestic violence, child abuse, assault, sexual offenses, or theft, requests will be denied.

Community Service Policies:

  1. Court Appointed Community Service grants the individual the ability to complete community service hours, not to become a regular volunteer.
  2. One no-call / no-show will result in automatic termination from the program.
  3. Tardiness is unacceptable and will result in termination.
  4. Individuals must arrive fifteen (15) minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
  5. A name badge must be worn at all times.
  6. Breaks must be coordinated with the on-site Supervisor.
  7. The on-site Supervisor reserves the right to withhold hours or terminate service if the individual does not meaningfully contribute to the daily operations of the organization by satisfactorily performing assigned duties.
  8. Community Service individuals must adhere to all Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh standard policies and procedures.

Community Service locations and shifts vary
