Need to admit an animal and unsure what to do?

Humane Animal Rescue follows an Open Managed Admission policy as part of being a socially-conscious shelter. This means that we ask the public to make an appointment to bring us their pet so we can ensure we have the proper resources prepared and available to provide the best care possible for each pet.

This model doesn’t mean we’ll turn away a pet in need or limit taking a pet, but instead allows us to provide the quality care that each pet needs and deserves. As part of ensuring we have appropriate space, there may be a wait between calling to schedule an appointment and us accepting your pet. We strive to create a supportive environment for you to make the best decision for your pet and family without judgment and scheduled appointments allow us to meet that need.

Humane Animal Rescue provides services for cats, dogs, rabbits, domestic rodents (rats, mice, gerbils, hamsters, chinchillas), ferrets, and reptiles (snakes, lizards, turtles on a limited basis).

Humane Animal Rescue charges a very small fee to admit your pet to our facility. We do not euthanize animals for space or at the end of a specified time period. Once pets arrive in our care, they are vaccinated, dewormed, spayed or neutered, and microchipped. Dogs over 6 months of age are also tested for heartworm. While at our shelter, your pet’s health and behavior is continually monitored. We estimate that it costs us between $300 and $500 to get a pet prepared for adoption.

Unfortunately, no. We do our very best, however, we cannot guarantee placement if your pet develops medical or behavioral issues after coming to our facility.

During your scheduled appointment, we will gather medical and behavioral information about your pet. Once we learn more about your pet, we will be able to have a transparent discussion about potential issues that may result in a pet being unsuitable for adoption. Depending on what resources we have available at Humane Animal Rescue, we may be able to provide pet owners with resources that will allow them to keep the pet or other options that would offer the pet a better outcome.

An admission fee will not be charged for any adopted animal that is returned within 30 days of placement in the home.

The adoptability and disposition of your pet will be discussed in detail at your admission session. If you leave your pet with us, you will sign a contract relinquishing ownership and all rights to that animal. There is no remorse period and we will not contact you regarding final disposition.

Once an animal has been surrendered to Humane Animal Rescue, we do not provide any update information on that pet.
