All pets adopted from HARP are spayed/neutered, microchipped, given age-appropriate vaccinations, provided a basic health check, treated with flea/tick protection, and dogs 6 months or older are tested for heartworm.

Vets and Pets

HARP and 84 Lumber team up for the “Vets & Pets” program, offering discounted pet adoptions to honor veterans.

Animal Tales is a program where kids 4-16 read to shelter animals to help socialize them. It boosts kids’ confidence and literacy skills.

Armstrong County 30

In December 2023, HARP rescued 30 dogs from severe conditions in Armstrong County, offering them a chance at new, loving homes. Thanks to community support, these dogs have thrived in their forever families, transforming from neglect to cherished companions.

In March 2024, nearly 60 cats were rescued from a hoarding situation in Somerset County by the Humane Society of Cambria County and the Central PA Humane Society. HARP assisted by taking 22 of the cats to its shelters for evaluation and care.

Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh Wildlife Rehabilitation Center prepares for busy season

HARP’s Wildlife Rehabilitation Center treats and rehabilitates over 4,000 injured and orphaned animals annually, ranging from squirrels to snakes. The organization relies on community support, including events like the Wildlife Baby Shower, to collect vital supplies for the animals in their care.
