Veterans and Active Duty Members of the Military Eligible for 50% Discount on Pet Adoption Fees

Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh (HARP) and 84 Lumber are partnering for “Vets & Pets”, a program to celebrate those who serve, or have served, in the armed forces. All current military members and veterans are eligible for a 50% discount on the adoption fee of any pet throughout May, Military Appreciation Month.

“Taking care of military service members has always been a top priority for 84 Lumber,” said Amy Smiley, vice president of marketing for 84 Lumber Company. “Every year, we continue to look for more opportunities to give back. We are excited to partner with Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh and we truly hope this contribution has an impact on many of our Pittsburgh veterans in need.”

“Studies have shown that pets provide stress relief and purpose to their owner’s lives, which can be especially beneficial for our veterans,” said Gerry Delon, executive director for HARP. “Vets & Pets is a win-win program for both the pets that deserve a loving home and our service members who will gain a forever companion. We are proud to work together with 84 Lumber to honor those who serve our country in a special way.”

HARP will offer the discounted adoptions at its East Side (6926 Hamilton Avenue) or North Side (1101 Western Avenue) locations. Beginning May 1st, adoption hours are Tuesday through Friday noon to 6 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. All animals are spayed or neutered, microchipped, given vaccinations appropriate for their age at the time of adoption, treated for parasites, and given flea/tick protection.
