Meet Tsuchinoko, the ONLY animal at the shelter without legs or fur! This girl is an active ball python that came to us from an environment where she was not receiving the husbandry she needed. Now, she is ready for a home committed to giving this tropical girl the proper care. She has an excellent appetite, and has never refused a meal since she's been here at the shelter! Tsuchinoko is still becoming comfortable with handling, so she will do best with someone patient who understands snake body language and will allow her to build trust at her own pace. But once she builds that trust, she is curious and likes to thoroughly explore her surroundings. An adult ball python needs a secure enclosure measuring at least 4 feet by 2 feet by 2 feet at the very minimum, with multiple snug hides, plenty of cover, climbing opportunities, and other enrichment to encourage natural behaviors. Her habitat will require a carefully monitored temperature gradient, with a warm area around 88–92°F and a cooler side around 76–80°F, as well as humidity generally maintained between 60–80%. Tsuchinoko is currently eating medium frozen-thawed rats, and will need regular enclosure maintenance, fresh water, and reliable heating and monitoring equipment. Ball pythons are a long-term commitment (20-30 years), but adopters prepared for their specialized care will find Tsuchinoko to be a fascinating and rewarding companion!
