Ellie’s Pet Pantry helps individual pet owners who need temporary relief in the form of food for their companion animals. Please reach out to our support team to learn more\, get help\, or to sign up for the next food pickup. 412.345.7300 x290 \nTo qualify\, you must be at least 18 years of age\, your pets must be spayed/neutered (we can help with this! Ask about free spay/neuter programs.)\, your pets are kept inside of the home\, and must be maintained in healthy living conditions. \nHow it Works:\n\nTo apply for assistance\, fill out this application before your first food pickup: Apply Here\nPut the last Wednesday of the month on your calendar! (*Dates subject to change based on resource/staff availability and major holidays.)\nCall us at 412.345.7300 x290 with any questions\nPick up food at your assigned time and location\nWe are generally unable to provide food outside the monthly pickup times\, so it’s important to be there at your assigned time. Otherwise\, you may have to wait until the following month.\n\nThe Fine Print:\nYou are not permitted to adopt from the shelter or obtain a pet from another source while receiving assistance from Ellie’s Pet Pantry. Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh has the right to terminate assistance if you obtain another pet at any time. \nEllie’s food and supplies are donated and may not be the current brand or type you are feeding your pets. While we try to accommodate special requests\, it may not always be possible. All cats must be in carriers. The night before surgery\, cats should have no food after 6 p.m. and no water after midnight. If you have a kitten under the age of 6 months\, he or she should have no food or water after midnight. \n\nFor just $80\, your cat can be spayed/neutered\, given a rabies and FVRCP (distemper) vaccine\, and microchipped.\nAppointments are required! DESCRIPTION:Every spring\, hundreds of baby wildlife\, some injured and abandoned\, arrive at the center. In preparation for the new arrivals\, Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh (HARP) will host a Wildlife Baby Shower to help stock up on supplies needed for the busy season ahead. \nThis fun-filled event is set for Saturday\, April 22 (Earth Day) from 10 a.m. to Noon at HARP’s East Side shelter (6926 Hamilton Ave. Pittsburgh 15208). During the celebration\, guests can enjoy animal encounters\, crafts\, snacks and more. Just like a human baby shower\, the wildlife shower would not be complete without gifts! \nGifts brought to the Wildlife Baby Shower will help the Wildlife Center meet the many needs of the animals. A complete “gift registry” can be found here and include common items that can be found in your local grocery store like paper towels\, canned mixed fruit\, and unsalted nuts. Items may be brought to the baby shower or donors may select items from the wish list for delivery to the Wildlife Center.

Animal Tales is a program in which children ages 4-12 can come and read to animals in the East Side shelter! \nParticipants attend an orientation to learn all about our HARP shelter\, the domestic animals here\, and the keys to observing animal behavior. Once you and your child attend an orientation\, they can sign up for as many or as few assigned dates to come read to the animals! Children can bring their own books (or choose from our collection)\, grab a carpet square\, and then read to animals whose kennels are marked with a “Read to me next!” sign. \nThis program not only helps to socialize the animals in our shelter to help expedite their adoption\, but also helps children improve their confidence and literacy as well. \nNew for 2023! If you and your child have attended an orientation and at least one reading session in 2022\, then you do not need to sign up for an orientation. DESCRIPTION:Happy Howl-idays! Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh is proud to present a night of family fun at our East Side Domestic Shelter! Dress up in your most festive holiday pajamas or sweater\, bring your favorite mugs (for hot chocolate of course!)\, and prepare yourselves for an evening of magical merriment! There will be crafts\, dog treat decorating\, and other activities to help spread holiday cheer to our resident animals. In the spirit of giving\, we encourage you to bring donations to help support animals in need. \nBecause this event is designed for families with children ages 4-12\, all children must be accompanied by an adult. This paw-ty takes place on Friday\, Dec. 9\, 2022 from 6-8 p.m. \nAllergens: We do our best to make our programming a safe and inclusive space\, but be advised that there may be allergens present on our facility (like pollen\, animal dander\, and nuts).

DESCRIPTION:Registration is open at humaneanimalrescue.org/spayathon2022/ and will remain open until Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. Registration will close early if all available slots are filled. \nThis event is for feral and community cats only\, no owned cats. Minimum of 5 cats per caregiver\, max of 10 cats. \nThis event is FREE. Cats will receive spay/neuter\, Rabies/FVRCP vaccine\, flea prevention\, ear tip. Cats must be in individual traps\, covered in a sheet or towel. Limit 10 cats per caregiver. The caregiver who drops off cats must be the person to pick them up. \nAdditional services will NOT be offered during the event. \nPhone calls will not be accepted\, participants must register online and will receive a confirmation email the week of Oct. 10.

DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendar for Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh’s (HARP) Pet-a-palooza! All are invited to enjoy the music\, kids’ activities\, giveaways and even some sweet treats from Salty Paws for our four-legged friends. \nThe fun-filled afternoon offers an opportunity to learn more about Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh\, its training programs\, Ellie’s Pet Food Pantry and volunteer and foster opportunities. Best of all\, it’s an opportunity to meet the many animals available for adoption\, from cats and dogs to guinea pigs\, rabbits and maybe even a turtle! Currently\, HARP has an abundance of animals in its care. \nThe adoption team at HARP works to make the best possible match\, learning more about adopters and sharing information about available animals. All animals are spayed or neutered\, microchipped\, given vaccinations appropriate for their age at the time of adoption\, and given flea/tick protection. In addition\, dogs 6 months or older are tested for heartworm. Go to humaneanimalrescue.org/adopt to view all the animals currently available for adoption.
